The Benches of North Captiva Premise- 5-7 benches constructed by Island carpenters and builders out of wood provided by the committee using an exact pattern provided by the committee. The benches are then given to the artists who have each agreed to decorate a bench. The artists supplies could also be provided by the committee. The artists with the help of their builder can deconstruct the bench, carve it, or use it as is.A deconstructed bench must have all the original pieces on it somewhere when done and must still be useable as a bench and must be weatherproof. The benches will make advertised appearances on the Island at gatherings sponsored by the two clubs the three restaurants and any other organized group on the Island. For example the benches might be seen atNCIC at a happy hour or at the SHC at an afternoon Tea.The Road Commission could sponsor them at a barbeque, which could also serve as a fundraiser for them. Barnacle Phil’s could have them for lunch. Each bench will have a silent auction sheet that will follow it around and also have a buy it now price. The get-togethers will be advertised in advance on our web site and also with signage around the Island. Their final appearance could be at the St Pat’s Party or not. If it is decided that this is a good idea I would like to get a committee together and start right away so that the benches can make their appearance in late January and go on through the winter season. It is my hope that this fundraiser could also be used to bring Islanders together at social venues allowing people to get to know each other outside of meetings and at the same time raise money for a non-controversial Island endeavor, if there is one.
