New Examples of Road Commission Activity
Posted:  22 Dec 2010

Click on the links at the right to see some recent "work orders" describing road "adjustments".  One describes repairs on Schooner, and we invite everyone to drop by and see what was done.  We think this is another good example of a good fix to alleviate major ponding on some of our streets.  The other link describes planned work on Oro Pesos.  Scroll further down this webpage to keep up to date on plans for further work.

An ATV was recently aquired to help drag "Groomer Junior" and other light weight implements around.  It is more suited to the load than some of the golf carts we might have worn out.  Look for pictures of this in the future.

UCRC Current Planned Work List
Posted:  7 April 2011
The first table below is the current "Side Street" job list to be worked on as derived from the Street Captain requests in the table at the bottom of this page.  The second table reflects the current thinking of the road commission board as it relates to "Main Streets".  Everything is subject to change.  Moisture and labor (volunteer or contract) availability will greatly affect progress.  If you have some needs that aren't listed, contact your Street Captain or email to jefuller@msn.com .

UCRC "Street Captain" Program
Adopted:  6 April 2010

Purpose:  To collect and deliver to the UCRC board a concise opinion from residents/owners concerning work needed (or not needed) on their particular “side road”.  ("Side roads” are those roads so designated by the UCRC board. To see outline of "Side Roads" vs. "Main Roads", click HERE .)  As the “eyes and ears” of the UCRC, the Street Captains will be a primary source of information for the board in deciding the priorities and feasibility of any particular maintenance operation.
Other factors used by the board in deciding specific road maintenance action will include:
1.
Soil types on any particular road or portion of a road
2.
Amount of funds needed to accomplish any specific operation
3.
Availability of labor (volunteer or paid) and equipment
4.
Availability of material as needed by any specific operation
5.
Weather and moisture conditions, or other seasonal factors

Street Captains will be designated initially by the UCRC from volunteers, with no definite term of service.  Simplicity should be the hallmark of this effort.  That is, no meetings will be required, just neighbors talking “across the fence”, on the phone, or by email.  Street Captains should be “email capable”.  Membership in the UCRC is encouraged, but not a requirement.

Street Captains will approach fellow neighbors (minimum of two others) from their street to solicit their opinions of maintenance needed on that street, if any.  Neighbors can take turns being the “Captain”, at their own discretion.
The end goal will be a short, simple, clear, and written statement of what the people on any particular street would like to see done (see chart below for examples).  The statement will be kept on record, posted on the UCCA1.com website, and, as conditions change, can be amended at any time by the Street Captains in concurrence with their neighbors.

A couple of low spots between the 120 and 170 lots could use some attention, maybe with the swail and build-up method used on Schooner  28 Jul 10

Oro Pesos
John/Maxine Otis
Garfield/Sharon Clark, Steve/Marni Ward, Sergio/Irene Guzman, Boyd/Mary Seidenburg Main priority is to fix three persistent pot holes located in the eastern 400 feet of the road. Little or no additional grading appears to be needed at this time.
 22Feb10
Hidden
Ralph DeMarco Bob & SueAnn Cousar, Tom Levin, (others to be added) Hidden Lane is fine, no action required at this time.  Will revisit subject later this month and hope to see conditions after a heavy rain. 4May10
Hodgepodge
Dave Tompkins
Joel Halberstadt, Joe Bryan
Three largest holes are at 4570, 4530 and one in front of fire station. Other trouble spots are relatively minor.  Not much traffic on this lane, so feel the need for periodic grading/scraping is nil. Concerns that recent fill attempts had too much course material which makes for some extra roughness. 29Apr10
Escondido Carolyn Creagh Donna Ellswick, Cora Ogle, Michael Flinn, Bruce Bailey Main objective is 3 large potholes at 4571, 4540 and 4521.  4571 is the worst of the 3.  When grading, be careful of snagging buried wires and landscaping fixtures.  There've been problems with this in the past, as maybe our wires are closer to the surface here for some reason.  28Apr10

Coral, Pirate, & Long Boat Cir. Mark Muller TBD  TBD
Schooner
Red Anders (John Porter, acting)

Three big potholes near the east end need attention.
13 May 10
Smugglers

Conch Shell TBD

Oyster Shell
 David Shepp
 Allan Krupar, Dan Hrycyk
Oyster is very uneven at the intersection with Rum, where there is a depression at the NW corner. This aggravates streaming water that makes erosion cuts across the road.  Another depression near the second lot west of Rum holds water across Oyster, then shrinks to the south edge.  Sugar sand at west end of road is not currently a problem.
 27Apr10
Butterfly Shell
 TBD

Panama Shell
 TBD

Gulf Drive (North)
Mitra Bakhtian
TBD
 Continuing problems with "washboarding".
